MASSAGE, REIKI & BODY WORK
MASSAGE
Massage is one of the oldest healing arts: Chinese records indicate massage has been practiced for over 3,000 years. Massage is the application of soft-tissue manipulation techniques to the body, generally intended to reduce stress and fatigue while improving circulation.
Today, massage is an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more.
A massage works by easing stress and pain, calming the nervous system, increasing circulation, loosening tight muscles, stimulating internal organs, and enhancing skin.
REIKI
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a type of energy bodywork. Reiki relies on the ancient belief in the life force energy, referred to as chi (chee), that flows through all things. This life force runs throughout pathways in the body nourishing organs and cells and supporting vital functions. When this energy is disrupted by negative thoughts, feelings or actions, illness and disease result.
A reiki practitioner’s hands are placed on or over or on a person’s body, sensing the affected areas and infusing them with positive flow. This raises the energetic vibration and breaks up the negativity to heal, clear and restore the natural flow of the life force.
BODY WORK
Up Dog Yoga and Wellness staffs only professionally trained massage therapists and bodywork practitioners. As with yoga, it is recommended that you attend a bodywork session with relatively empty stomach. Consumption of more fluids is recommended after a bodywork session.
