INSTRUCTORS

Kate Flock
Kate's desire to teach yoga comes from learning to know her own heart through the practice of yoga and a desire to help fellow yogis discover the beauty within their own hearts.

Kate complete YogaWorks 200-hour Teacher Training with Carmen Fitzgibbon from Los Angeles, California at Invoke Studio in Indianapolis, Indiana in August 2008. Her instructor gave one succinct recommendation when posed a simple question by her students, "where do we go now to continue learning?" Carmen's answer was simple and to the point, "Go find an Iyengar-Certified Yoga Instructor and spend as much time with that person as you possibly can."

As a result, Kate found Iyengar-Certified and ERYT 500/500 with Yoga Alliance Teacher Jyoti Hansa. Kate continues her practice at Up Dog studio in classes where she finds like-minded students.

Kate's mantra as a student of yoga is simple: If you learn to trust yourself and work the asana in your own body, the universe will respond with whatever you need. The only requirement is to look inside your own heart to see the answers. Going to your mat makes this possible on a daily basis. We already have everything we need to be content, we just need to be reminded where to look.

Alicia Oskay
A former runner and aerobics instructor, Alicia Oskay found yoga in 2001. Feeling a natural draw to yoga, she stepped into a vinyasa class from the recommendation of a friend. She quickly became serious about studying yoga and immersed herself to aid in healing over the sudden loss of her mother.

In spring of 2003, Alicia graduated from the 200-hour All People Yoga Teacher Training Program with Nancy Schalk. During her teacher training, she stumbled upon the work of B.K.S. Iyengar. Through Iyengar's teachings, Alicia began to find increased awareness and spirituality in her yoga practice. She has studied Iyengar's work under Certified Iyengar Instructors Jyoti Hansa, Judi Rice, John Schumacher, Patricia Walden and Shaw-Jiun Chalitsios-Wang. She currently studies yoga with Jyoti Hansa at Up Dog Studio and has been a student of hers for over 6 years.

Alicia previously had a career as a registered dietitian. She graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1996. Her previous work experience with DePauw University allowed her to combine nutrition and yoga together as she worked with eating disorders, weight management and sports nutrition. Alicia believes strongly in the healing powers of natural foods, from preparation to consumption and their ability to unite us to self and others. She studies organic gardening and herbs with Master Gardener Constance Ferry of Hobbit Gardens in Fillmore, Indiana.

Alicia has found her intended path is to help others to come in touch with their physical body and spiritual self. She studied massage and graduated from the 500-hour IUPUI Therapeutic Massage Program in 2005. She also received her Reiki Level I & II in 2005.

Unable to choose just one path, Alicia has integrated all that she knows in her business practice. She opened Up Dog Yoga and Wellness in 2005. In this space, Alicia shares her compassion and spiritual energy through yoga and wellness.

Heather Worrell
When Heather first began practicing yoga in early 2001, she realized quickly that she had known the practices from childhood as she taught yoga poses (unbeknownst to her and an unsuspecting gym teacher) to her classmates. She has been practicing yoga based on Iyengar's teachings since 2004 and teaching at Up Dog studio since 2007. She studied teacher training techniques under Jyoti Hansa from 2006-2007.

Heather brings a sense of humor, spirituality, and peace to her yoga teachings. She balances work on the body, the mind, and the soul in each class, pulling insight from various spiritual paths including Kabbalah, Buddhism, Tantra yoga, and the Yoga Action Squad. (ok, there is no "insight" in the Yoga Action Squad, but it is funny - http://www.yogaactionsquad.com)

Heather believes in giving back to the community and the environment. Her work in architecture and yoga help to marry these beliefs with action. She is a coordinator with Architecture for Humanity Indy Chapter and is currently working with the Kallari Cooperative in Ecuador to develop a sustainable chocolate factory outside of Quito.
